(Reuters) – Interest rates on U.S. 30-year fixed-rate mortgages declined to their lowest levels since November 2016 as U.S. bond yields have fallen on expectations the Federal Reserve may lower.
The 30 Year Mortgage Rate is the fixed interest rate that US home-buyers would pay if they were to take out a loan lasting 30 years. There are many different kinds of mortgages that homeowners can decide on which will have varying interest rates and monthly payments.
Five-year adjustable rate mortgages, or ARMs, have historically carried lower baseline interest rates than the common 30-year fixed-rate mortgage. Since 2005, rates for the 5/1 hybrid have tracked the decline of the 30-year fixed-rate, with initial rates for the adjustable averaging 0.71 points lower than fixed-rate mortgages.
